New double-blind trial shows positive effects from PS128 for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Lactobacillus plantarum PS128 has been shown to modulate levels of neurotransmitters in the brain. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) patients report a disturbance of neurotransmitters – leading researchers to test for beneficial effects from PS128 for ASD patients. Results from the study showed improvement in opposition/defiance behaviors and improved SNAP-IV scores among the test group as compared to the placebo group. The remarkably potent L. plantarum PS128 is now available in the United States via our Solace Probiotic capsules. Solace is a daily probiotic supplement that helps support a healthy mind and body.
PS128 is considered a gut-brain probiotic with mental health effects. PS128 has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety-like behaviors, while improving locomotor activities.
In this trial, either PS128 or a placebo was given a group of 80 boys between the ages of 7-15 who have been diagnosed with ASD. Participants continued to take their regular medications and treatments throughout the study, but refrained from taking antibiotics and from consuming yogurt or other probiotic products. Improvements were seen in test subjects in the areas of disruptive and rule-breaking behavior, as well as hyperactivity and impulsivity.
